Melbourne tutor in English
, Essay Writing, Creative Writing, English
Literature, Music Theory, Musicianship, Piano
I am a current University of Melbourne Bachelor of Arts student with several years experience tutoring at a secondary and early tertiary level. I am able to teach students in both a highly structured way suitable for VCE humanities subjects and specific essay-writing tasks at school and university, but I am also willing to adopt a mentor role for those students, of any age, who have an interest in developing their skills in creative writing or musical composition, at their own pace, with the support of a dedicated editor, teacher, and collaborator.
In 2015 I completed the following VCE 3/4 subjects at The University High School:
Literature (Raw 42, A+ A+ A+)
Economics Legal Studies Music Style & Composition Music Performance
During Year 12 I also undertook two first-year modules of English and Theatre Studies at The University of Melbourne, achieving H1s in both and receiving the excellence award for highest mark in the Extension Program cohort.
I can teach piano from complete beginners up to around grade 6, working on exams for various boards (I am experienced with ABRSM and AMEB), or for VCE (Music Performance or Music Styles & Composition), or for personal pleasure. I can also teach jazz piano and improvisation up to an intermediate level.
I specialise in music theory and composition, particularly 17th-19th century foundational harmony and counterpoint, and can teach most theory syllabuses up to second year tertiary level. I completed ABRSM Grade 8 Theory of Music in 2013.
I do not yet have a Working with Children Check, and my services would probably be unsuited to students younger than 15.
My fee can be changed if you would like advice, feedback, and assignments provided through correspondence (for example, through email) and detailed assessment and annotation of work completed in my own time.
