BRAIN-BASED TEACHER BRINGS NEW HELP TO LEARNERS WHO RISK FALLING BEHIND:
I'm Caro. I focus on rapidly improving schoolwork by simultaneously developing 'invisible' cognitive skills vital for learning & reading โ skills not readily practised at school.
My participants regularly surprise their school teachers with their newly developed abilities... many within weeks!
My personalised, nurturing format allows students to become excited about each incremental step.
It's a novel approach that brings a rewarding buzz to learning (and your home). Students enjoy the flexibility and freedom of completing lessons on their own computer or iPadยฎ (at times that suit you best) and I am very much a part of their journeys. I begin with a Skype or telephone call to introduce myself (and the programs) and let your child know that I'll be with them each step of the way... I'll track, guide and celebrate progress through a fun daily log, and also keep in touch via telephone and the Post (because kids love getting letters!).
On average, a 1-2 year gain in reading skills can be achieved in 12 weeks ($780 total @ $65/wk).
WHAT WILL WE BE WORKING ON?
๐ Foundational Auditory Processing
Why is learning & reading easy for some, yet hard for others? Scientific research has shown it rarely has anything to do with intelligence โ slow progress doesn't necessarily mean a learner is lazy, unmotivated or not listening hard enough... often their brain is unable to process rapid information quickly, efficiently or accurately enough, but specific neuroscientific training can rewire the brain for better processing, learning & reading at any age.
๐ Language, Literacy & Reading Skills:
Phonemic Awareness, Phonics & Decoding, Spelling, High Frequency Words, Difficult Words (e.g. Homophones), English Language Conventions, Grammar, Reading Fluency, Vocabulary and Comprehension.
๐ Cognitive Skills:
Memory, Attention, Sequencing & Processing
๐ Life Skills:
Improved Academics, Enhanced Self-Confidence, Better Communication, Better Ability to Follow Directions, Greater Interest in Learning, Stronger Mental Agility, Greater Alertness (a benefit to maths, sport, science & all other areas of the curriculum).
THE LIMITS OF STANDARD INSTRUCTION...
Most people recognise that repetition is key to learning. On average, to learn something new you'll need to repeat a task 8 times, although if you're aiming to replace an old (or incorrect) action with a new (or correct) action, you'll need to repeat it successfully 28 times.
Sounds easy enough... until it gets boring, feels too hard, the instruction is misunderstood or something 'better' grabs our attention. Even in a 1-to-1 learning situation, it's not always possible for a teacher & student to complete something enough times (& well enough) to make it stick. Frequency & cognition will play a crucial role - practising something once a week is not as beneficial as effectively practising it 3 to 5 times a week, while sometimes a learner's cognitive skills (& not the lesson or task, itself) are at the core of any difficulties.
WHY ONLINE IS MORE THAN FINE...
Research shows inattention, impulsiveness, or even a sedentary lifestyle, tie in with negative brain plasticity (less connections in the brain because of less stimulation).
On the flip side, brain plasticity & learning improve when we frequently revisit activities that are engagingly rigorous, novel, rewarding & meaningful. As neuronal connections strengthen & increase, associated tasks become easier & faster!
Technology can deliver many more repetitions to a learner than a classroom teacher ever could & using an online platform allows actual neuroscientists to enhance our educative experiences - so parents & learners on a mission can be sure the brain will benefit.
A HIDDEN GEM THAT TICKS ALL THE BOXES
We'll be using Fast ForWordยฎ, a series of computer-delivered brain fitness exercises designed to dramatically improve language & reading by simultaneously improving memory, attention, sequencing & processing skills.
The Fast ForWord products support existing curriculum but are not sold in stores because they require professional teacher oversight and guidance. When students process more efficiently, every other instructional strategy works better.
Add, the companion program, Reading Assistantโข, for greater oral fluency (it's amazing software that actually listens to you read & helps you as you go)!

3RS TUTORING | SCHOLARSHIP PREPARATION | COGNITIVE GAINS
My learning packages are suitable for Primary Students, Teens & Adults (ages 6+) who wish to boost their academic achievement, attention, listening, or recall capabilities - including participants who require home language therapy options or home-based interventions for reading difficulties, auditory processing disorder, dyslexia, speech or language impairment, autism spectrum disorders, ADD/ADHD, a specific learning disability, and/or English Language Learners.
Advanced modules provide practice in Reading Comprehension, Verbal Reasoning & Numerical Reasoning (extra helpful if sitting for an Edutest Scholarship is a possibility). To benefit fully, I recommend beginning Fast ForWord in the early years of primary school and revisiting it for a few months each school year to allow time to complete all successive modules comfortably.
There's even a School Readiness program (ages 4-5) - perfect to build a great start for any new school child.
For ESL students, Fast ForWord is the top ranked intervention for English language development on What Works Clearinghouse.
After 2 months on any package, primary-school numeracy tutoring is also available.
All you need is a pair of headphones or a headset, a computer or iPad with internet and a desire to succeed...
